2019-11-21perf tools: Add kernel AUX area sampling definitionsAdrian Hunter
Add kernel AUX area sampling definitions, which brings perf_event.h into line with the kernel version. New sample type PERF_SAMPLE_AUX requests a sample of the AUX area buffer. New perf_event_attr member 'aux_sample_size' specifies the desired size of the sample. Also add support for parsing samples containing AUX area data i.e. PERF_SAMPLE_AUX. Committer notes: I squashed the first two patches in this series to avoid breaking automatic bisection, i.e. after applying only the original first patch in this series we would have: # perf test -v parsing 26: Sample parsing : --- start --- test child forked, pid 17018 sample format has changed, some new PERF_SAMPLE_ bit was introduced - test needs updating test child finished with -1 ---- end ---- Sample parsing: FAILED! # With the two paches combined: # perf test parsing 26: Sample parsing : Ok # Signed-off-by: Adrian Hunter <adrian.hunter@intel.com> Tested-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Cc: Jiri Olsa <jolsa@redhat.com> Link: http://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20191115124225.5247-3-adrian.hunter@intel.com Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com>
2018-11-12perf tools: Fix crash on synthesizing the unitJiri Olsa
Adam reported a record command crash for simple session like: $ perf record -e cpu-clock ls with following backtrace: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 3543 ev = event_update_event__new(size + 1, PERF_EVENT_UPDATE__UNIT, evsel->id[0]); (gdb) bt #0 perf_event__synthesize_event_update_unit #1 0x000000000051e469 in perf_event__synthesize_extra_attr #2 0x00000000004445cb in record__synthesize #3 0x0000000000444bc5 in __cmd_record ... We synthesize an update event that needs to touch the evsel id array, which is not defined at that time. Fix this by forcing the id allocation for events with their unit defined. Reflecting possible read_format ID bit in the attr tests. 2017-10-02perf tests attr: Fix task term valuesJiri Olsa
The perf_event_attr::task is 1 by default for first (tracking) event in the session. Setting task=1 as default and adding task=0 for cases that need it. 2017-07-18perf tests attr: Fix precise_ip setupJiri Olsa

2017-07-18perf tests attr: Fix sample_period setupJiri Olsa
The final period can differ from what user specifies on command line due to the perf_event_max_sample_rate sysctl setup. Thus we can't predixt the sample_period value any more. 2017-07-18perf tests attr: Add 1s for exclude_kernel and task base bitsJiri Olsa
There's an event open fallback which set exclude_kernel=1 in case use does not have enough privileges. Adding both 0|1 for this attribute, because we don't know what value it is. 2013-05-29perf tests: Fix exclude_guest|exclude_host checking for attr testsJiri Olsa
We have a one of the event open fallback case in __perf_evsel__open where we zero exclude_guest|exclude_host fields. This means there's no way for attr tests to find out what's the right value for those fields, so we need to check for both 0 and 1. Luckily we still have other event parsing tests for those fields. 2012-12-11perf evsel: No need to always ask for PERF_FORMAT_TOTAL_TIME_{ENABLED,RUNNING}Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo
This is needed, so far, just in 'perf stat', to scale counters, so don't unconditionally ask for them in the perf_evsel__config() method. 2012-12-11perf evsel: No need to always ask for PERF_FORMAT_ID in read_formatArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
Instead make perf_evlist__confir_attrs use perf_evsel__set_sample_id() when having more than one event, that way only if we have multiple events we'll ask to have the event ids returned when we read its file descriptors.
