2018-02-16mtd: nand: Get rid of comments giving the file path inside the file itselfBoris Brezillon
Some files add a comment giving the path of the file inside the Linux tree, which is pretty useless since the reader had to find the file to open it. 2017-10-07mtd: nand: gpio: Convert to use GPIO descriptorsLinus Walleij
There is exactly one board in the kernel that defines platform data for the GPIO NAND driver. Use the feature to provide a lookup table for the GPIOs in the board file so we can convert the driver as a whole to just use GPIO descriptors. After this we can cut the use of <linux/of_gpio.h> and use the GPIO descriptor management from <linux/gpio/consumer.h> alone to grab and use the GPIOs used in the driver. I also created a local struct device *dev in the probe() function because I was getting annoyed with all the &pdev->dev dereferencing. 2017-08-13mtd: nand: Rename nand.h into rawnand.hBoris Brezillon
We are planning to share more code between different NAND based devices (SPI NAND, OneNAND and raw NANDs), but before doing that we need to move the existing include/linux/mtd/nand.h file into include/linux/mtd/rawnand.h so we can later create a nand.h header containing all common structure and function prototypes. 2015-11-11mtd: nand: drop unnecessary partition parser dataBrian Norris
All of these drivers set up a parser data struct just to communicate DT partition data. This field has been deprecated and is instead supported by telling nand_scan_ident() about the 'flash_node'. This patch: * sets chip->flash_node for those drivers that didn't already (but used OF partitioning) * drops the parser data * switches to the simpler mtd_device_register() where possible, now that we've eliminated one of the auxiliary parameters Now that we've assigned chip->flash_node for these drivers, we can probably rely on nand_dt_init() to do more of the DT parsing for us, but for now, I don't want to fiddle with each of these drivers. The parsing is done in duplicate for now on some drivers. I don't think this should break things. (Famous last words.) 2014-11-04mtd: nand: gpio: improve comments about GPIO assisted operationGerhard Sittig
The drivers/mtd/nand/gpio.c driver does not GPIO bitbang the complete NAND protocol, but instead is GPIO _assisted_ -- a memory mapped interface communicates commands and data, and only few control signals are connected to GPIO pins. Expand comments in the driver source and in the Kconfig description to better reflect the very nature of the driver. The previous text could be mistaken for complete GPIO bitbanging. Just as Artem suggested: "Both UBI and JFFS2 are able to read verify what they wrote already. There are also MTD tests which do this verification. So I think there is no reason to keep this in the NAND layer, let alone wasting RAM in the driver to support this feature. Besides, it does not work for sub-pages and many drivers have it broken. It hurts more than it provides benefits." So kill MTD_NAND_VERIFY_WRITE entirely.
