2018-02-16mtd: nand: move raw NAND related code to the raw/ subdirBoris Brezillon
As part of the process of sharing more code between different NAND based devices, we need to move all raw NAND related code to the raw/ subdirectory. Signed-off-by: Boris Brezillon <boris.brezillon@bootlin.com>
2017-12-14mtd: nand: force drivers to explicitly send READ/PROG commandsBoris Brezillon
The core currently send the READ0 and SEQIN+PAGEPROG commands in nand_do_read/write_ops(). This is inconsistent with ->read/write_oob[_raw]() hooks behavior which are expected to send these commands. There's already a flag (NAND_ECC_CUSTOM_PAGE_ACCESS) to inform the core that a specific controller wants to send the READ/SEQIN+PAGEPROG commands on its own, but it's an opt-in flag, and existing drivers are unlikely to be updated to pass it. Moreover, some controllers cannot dissociate the READ/PAGEPROG commands from the associated data transfer and ECC engine activation, and developers have to hack things in their ->cmdfunc() implementation to handle such complex cases, or have to accept the perf penalty of sending twice the same command. To address this problem we are planning on adding a new interface which is passed all information about a NAND operation (including the amount of data to transfer) and replacing all calls to ->cmdfunc() to calls to this new ->exec_op() hook. But, in order to do that, we need to have all ->cmdfunc() calls placed near their associated ->read/write_buf/byte() calls. Modify the core and relevant drivers to make NAND_ECC_CUSTOM_PAGE_ACCESS the default case, and remove this flag. 2017-11-30mtd: nand: ifc: update bufnum mask for ver >= 2.0.0Jagdish Gediya
Bufnum mask is used to calculate page position in the internal SRAM. As IFC version 2.0.0 has 16KB of internal SRAM as compared to older versions which had 8KB. Hence bufnum mask needs to be updated. 2017-08-13mtd: nand: Rename nand.h into rawnand.hBoris Brezillon
We are planning to share more code between different NAND based devices (SPI NAND, OneNAND and raw NANDs), but before doing that we need to move the existing include/linux/mtd/nand.h file into include/linux/mtd/rawnand.h so we can later create a nand.h header containing all common structure and function prototypes. 2017-06-10mtd: nand: fsl_ifc: fix handing of bit flips in erased pagesBoris Brezillon

2017-05-30mtd: nand: Make sure drivers not supporting SET/GET_FEATURES return -ENOTSUPPBoris Brezillon
A lot of drivers are providing their own ->cmdfunc(), and most of the time this implementation does not support all possible NAND operations. But since ->cmdfunc() cannot return an error code, the core has no way to know that the operation it requested is not supported. This is a problem we cannot address for all kind of operations with the current design, but we can prevent these silent failures for the GET/SET FEATURES operation by overloading the default ->onfi_{set,get}_features() methods with one returning -ENOTSUPP. 2017-02-06mtd: nand: ifc: Fix location of eccstat registers for IFC V1.0Mark Marshall
The commit 7a654172161c ("mtd/ifc: Add support for IFC controller version 2.0") added support for version 2.0 of the IFC controller. The version 2.0 controller has the ECC status registers at a different location to the previous versions. Correct the fsl_ifc_nand structure so that the ECC status can be read from the correct location for both version 1.0 and 2.0 of the controller. 2015-11-11mtd: nand: drop unnecessary partition parser dataBrian Norris
All of these drivers set up a parser data struct just to communicate DT partition data. This field has been deprecated and is instead supported by telling nand_scan_ident() about the 'flash_node'. This patch: * sets chip->flash_node for those drivers that didn't already (but used OF partitioning) * drops the parser data * switches to the simpler mtd_device_register() where possible, now that we've eliminated one of the auxiliary parameters Now that we've assigned chip->flash_node for these drivers, we can probably rely on nand_dt_init() to do more of the DT parsing for us, but for now, I don't want to fiddle with each of these drivers. The parsing is done in duplicate for now on some drivers. I don't think this should break things. (Famous last words.) 2015-10-13mtd: nand: pass page number to ecc->write_xxx() methodsBoris BREZILLON
The ->read_xxx() methods are all passed the page number the NAND controller is supposed to read, but ->write_xxx() do not have such a parameter. This is a problem if we want to properly implement data scrambling/randomization in order to mitigate MLC sensibility to repeated pattern: to prevent bitflips in adjacent pages in the same block we need to avoid repeating the same pattern at the same offset in those pages, hence the randomizer/scrambler engine need to be passed the page value in order to adapt its seed accordingly. Moreover, adding the page parameter to the ->write_xxx() methods add some consistency to the current API. 2012-11-16mtd: fsl_ifc_nand: wait tWB time, poll R/B before command executionPrabhakar Kushwaha
IFC_FIR_OP_CMD0 issues command for execution without checking flash readiness. It may cause problem if flash is not ready. Instead use IFC_FIR_OP_CW0 which Wait for tWB time and poll R/B to return high or time-out, before issuing command. NAND_CMD_READID command implemention does not fulfill above requirement. So update its programming. 2012-09-29mtd: kill MTD_NAND_VERIFY_WRITEHuang Shijie
Just as Artem suggested: "Both UBI and JFFS2 are able to read verify what they wrote already. There are also MTD tests which do this verification. So I think there is no reason to keep this in the NAND layer, let alone wasting RAM in the driver to support this feature. Besides, it does not work for sub-pages and many drivers have it broken. It hurts more than it provides benefits." So kill MTD_NAND_VERIFY_WRITE entirely. 2012-09-27driver/mtd:IFC NAND:Initialise internal SRAM before any writePrabhakar Kushwaha
IFC-1.1.0 uses 28nm techenology for SRAM. This tech has known limitaion for SRAM i.e. "byte select" is not supported. Hence Read Modify Write is implemented in IFC for any "system side write" into sram buffer. Reading an uninitialized memory results in ECC Error from sram wrapper. Hence we must initialize/prefill SRAM buffer by any data before writing anything in SRAM from system side. To initialize SRAM user can use "READID" NAND command with read bytes equal to SRAM size. It will be a one time activity post boot. 2012-07-06mtd: nand: teach write_page and write_page_raw return an error codeJosh Wu
There is an implemention of hardware ECC write page function which may return an error indication. For instance, using Atmel HW PMECC to write one page into a nand flash, the hardware engine will compute the BCH ecc code for this page. so we need read a the status register to theck whether the ecc code is generated. But we cannot assume the status register always can be ready, for example, incorrect hardware configuration or hardware issue, in such case we need write_page() to return a error code. Since the definition of 'write_page' function in struct nand_ecc_ctrl is 'void'. So this patch will: 1. add return 'int' value for 'write_page' function. 2. to be consitent, add return 'int' value for 'write_page_raw' fuctions too. 3. add code to test the return value, and if negative, indicate an error happend when write page with ECC. 4. fix the compile warning in all impacted nand flash driver. Note: I couldn't compile-test all of these easily, as some had ARCH dependencies.
