external calls to OBJ_new_nid will fail on an attempt to lock the ossl_obj_nid_lock as it won't have been initalized yet. Bifurcate OBJ_new_nid into an external and internal variant, in which the former calls ossl_obj_write_lock (ensuring that the nid_lock is initalized), while OBJ_create (the sole internal caller) uses the latter to avoid having to drop and re-acquire the lock Fixes #22337 Reviewed-by: Matt Caswell <matt@openssl.org> Reviewed-by: Tomas Mraz <tomas@openssl.org> (Merged from https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/22350)

2023-06-06Restrict the size of OBJECT IDENTIFIERs that OBJ_obj2txt will translateRichard Levitte
OBJ_obj2txt() would translate any size OBJECT IDENTIFIER to canonical numeric text form. For gigantic sub-identifiers, this would take a very long time, the time complexity being O(n^2) where n is the size of that sub-identifier. To mitigate this, a restriction on the size that OBJ_obj2txt() will translate to canonical numeric text form is added, based on RFC 2578 (STD 58), which says this: > 3.5. OBJECT IDENTIFIER values > > An OBJECT IDENTIFIER value is an ordered list of non-negative numbers. > For the SMIv2, each number in the list is referred to as a sub-identifier, > there are at most 128 sub-identifiers in a value, and each sub-identifier > has a maximum value of 2^32-1 (4294967295 decimal). 2023-04-04Don't call OPENSSL_init_crypto from inside a RUN_ONCEMatt Caswell
Calling OPENSSL_init_crypto from inside a RUN_ONCE seems like a bad idea. This is especially bad if OPENSSL_init_crypto can recursively end up attempting to call the RUN_ONCE that we're already inside. The initialisation in OPENSSL_init_crypto is already "run once" protected. There is no need to protect it "twice". 2022-10-05Stop raising ERR_R_MALLOC_FAILURE in most placesRichard Levitte
Since OPENSSL_malloc() and friends report ERR_R_MALLOC_FAILURE, and at least handle the file name and line number they are called from, there's no need to report ERR_R_MALLOC_FAILURE where they are called directly, or when SSLfatal() and RLAYERfatal() is used, the reason `ERR_R_MALLOC_FAILURE` is changed to `ERR_R_CRYPTO_LIB`. There were a number of places where `ERR_R_MALLOC_FAILURE` was reported even though it was a function from a different sub-system that was called. Those places are changed to report ERR_R_{lib}_LIB, where {lib} is the name of that sub-system. Some of them are tricky to get right, as we have a lot of functions that belong in the ASN1 sub-system, and all the `sk_` calls or from the CRYPTO sub-system. Some extra adaptation was necessary where there were custom OPENSSL_malloc() wrappers, and some bugs are fixed alongside these changes. This is done using a single global lock. The premise for this is that new objects will most frequently be added at start up and never added subsequently. 2019-09-28Reorganize local header filesDr. Matthias St. Pierre
Apart from public and internal header files, there is a third type called local header files, which are located next to source files in the source directory. Currently, they have different suffixes like '*_lcl.h', '*_local.h', or '*_int.h' This commit changes the different suffixes to '*_local.h' uniformly. 2019-09-28Reorganize private crypto header filesDr. Matthias St. Pierre
Currently, there are two different directories which contain internal header files of libcrypto which are meant to be shared internally: While header files in 'include/internal' are intended to be shared between libcrypto and libssl, the files in 'crypto/include/internal' are intended to be shared inside libcrypto only. To make things complicated, the include search path is set up in such a way that the directive #include "internal/file.h" could refer to a file in either of these two directoroes. This makes it necessary in some cases to add a '_int.h' suffix to some files to resolve this ambiguity: #include "internal/file.h" # located in 'include/internal' #include "internal/file_int.h" # located in 'crypto/include/internal' This commit moves the private crypto headers from 'crypto/include/internal' to 'include/crypto' As a result, the include directives become unambiguous #include "internal/file.h" # located in 'include/internal' #include "crypto/file.h" # located in 'include/crypto' hence the superfluous '_int.h' suffixes can be stripped. The files 'store_int.h' and 'store.h' need to be treated specially; they are joined into a single file. 2019-05-08ossl_bsearch(): New generic internal binary search utility functionRichard Levitte
OBJ_bsearch_ and OBJ_bsearch_ex_ are generic functions that don't really belong with the OBJ API, but should rather be generic utility functions. The ending underscore indicates that they are considered internal, even though they are declared publicly. Since crypto/stack/stack.c uses OBJ_bsearch_ex_, the stack API ends up depending on the OBJ API, which is unnecessary, and carries along other dependencies. Therefor, a generic internal function is created, ossl_bsearch(). This removes the unecessary dependencies. 2017-08-22This has been added to avoid the situation where some host ctype.h functionsPauli
return true for characters > 127. I.e. they are allowing extended ASCII characters through which then cause problems. E.g. marking superscript '2' as a number then causes the common (ch - '0') conversion to number to fail miserably. Likewise letters with diacritical marks can also cause problems. If a non-ASCII character set is being used (currently only EBCDIC), it is adjusted for. The implementation uses a single table with a bit for each of the defined classes. These functions accept an int argument and fail for values out of range or for characters outside of the ASCII set. They will work for both signed and unsigned character inputs.
