2019-08-27OPENSSL_info(): add the item OPENSSL_INFO_SEED_SOURCE and use itRichard Levitte
'openssl version -r' prints the seed source based on compiler macros. This does not necessarily reflect the library's idea of what seed sources to use, so we reimplement the list of seed sources as a OPENSSL_info() item and display that instead. 2018-12-06Switch to MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH versioning and version 3.0.0-devRichard Levitte
We're strictly use version numbers of the form MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH. Letter releases are things of days past. The most central change is that we now express the version number with three macros, one for each part of the version number: OPENSSL_VERSION_MAJOR OPENSSL_VERSION_MINOR OPENSSL_VERSION_PATCH We also provide two additional macros to express pre-release and build metadata information (also specified in semantic versioning): OPENSSL_VERSION_PRE_RELEASE OPENSSL_VERSION_BUILD_METADATA To get the library's idea of all those values, we introduce the following functions: unsigned int OPENSSL_version_major(void); unsigned int OPENSSL_version_minor(void); unsigned int OPENSSL_version_patch(void); const char *OPENSSL_version_pre_release(void); const char *OPENSSL_version_build_metadata(void); Additionally, for shared library versioning (which is out of scope in semantic versioning, but that we still need): OPENSSL_SHLIB_VERSION We also provide a macro that contains the release date. This is not part of the version number, but is extra information that we want to be able to display: OPENSSL_RELEASE_DATE Finally, also provide the following convenience functions: const char *OPENSSL_version_text(void); const char *OPENSSL_version_text_full(void); The following macros and functions are deprecated, and while currently existing for backward compatibility, they are expected to disappear: OPENSSL_VERSION_NUMBER OPENSSL_VERSION_TEXT OPENSSL_VERSION OpenSSL_version_num() OpenSSL_version() Also, this function is introduced to replace OpenSSL_version() for all indexes except for OPENSSL_VERSION: OPENSSL_info() For configuration, the option 'newversion-only' is added to disable all the macros and functions that are mentioned as deprecated above. 2018-01-31apps: Don't include progs.h in apps.hRichard Levitte
Everything in apps includes apps.h, because that one declares apps internal library routines. However, progs.h doesn't declare library routines, but rather the main commands and their options, and there's no reason why the library modules should include it. So, remove the inclusion of progs.h from apps.h and add that inclusion in all command source files. 2017-07-22Add --with-rand-seedRich Salz
Add a new config param to specify how the CSPRNG should be seeded. Illegal values or nonsensical combinations (e.g., anything other than "os" on VMS or HP VOS etc) result in build failures. Add RDSEED support. Add RDTSC but leave it disabled for now pending more investigation. Refactor and reorganization all seeding files (rand_unix/win/vms) so that they are simpler. Only require 128 bits of seeding material. Many document improvements, including why to not use RAND_add() and the limitations around using load_file/write_file. Document RAND_poll(). 2015-04-24Big apps cleanup (option-parsing, etc)Rich Salz
This is merges the old "rsalz-monolith" branch over to master. The biggest change is that option parsing switch from cascasding 'else if strcmp("-foo")' to a utility routine and somethin akin to getopt. Also, an error in the command line no longer prints the full summary; use -help (or --help :) for that. There have been many other changes and code-cleanup, see bullet list below. 2001-10-24Due to an increasing number of clashes between modern OpenSSL andRichard Levitte
libdes (which is still used out there) or other des implementations, the OpenSSL DES functions are renamed to begin with DES_ instead of des_. Compatibility routines are provided and declared by including openssl/des_old.h. Those declarations are the same as were in des.h when the OpenSSL project started, which is exactly how libdes looked at that time, and hopefully still looks today. The compatibility functions will be removed in some future release, at the latest in version 1.0.
2001-10-20New functions SSL[_CTX]_set_msg_callback().Bodo Möller
New macros SSL[_CTX]_set_msg_callback_arg(). Message callback imlementation for SSL 3.0/TLS 1.0 (no SSL 2.0 yet). New '-msg' option for 'openssl s_client' and 'openssl s_server' that enable a message callback that displays all protocol messages. In ssl3_get_client_hello (ssl/s3_srvr.c), generate a fatal alert if client_version is smaller than the protocol version in use. Also change ssl23_get_client_hello (ssl/s23_srvr.c) to select TLS 1.0 if the client demanded SSL 3.0 but only TLS 1.0 is enabled; then the client will at least see that alert. Fix SSL[_CTX]_ctrl prototype (void * instead of char * for generic pointer). Add/update some OpenSSL copyright notices.

2001-02-19Make all configuration macros available for application by makingRichard Levitte
sure they are available in opensslconf.h, by giving them names starting with "OPENSSL_" to avoid conflicts with other packages and by making sure e_os2.h will cover all platform-specific cases together with opensslconf.h. I've checked fairly well that nothing breaks with this (apart from external software that will adapt if they have used something like NO_KRB5), but I can't guarantee it completely, so a review of this change would be a good thing.
