In the iov_iter struct, separate the iterator type from the iterator
direction and use accessor functions to access them in most places.
Convert a bunch of places to use switch-statements to access them rather
then chains of bitwise-AND statements. This makes it easier to add further
iterator types. Also, this can be more efficient as to implement a switch
of small contiguous integers, the compiler can use ~50% fewer compare
instructions than it has to use bitwise-and instructions.
Further, cease passing the iterator type into the iterator setup function.
The iterator function can set that itself. Only the direction is required.

Almost all files in the kernel are either plain text or UTF-8 encoded. A
couple however are ISO_8859-1, usually just a few characters in a C
comments, for historic reasons.
This converts them all to UTF-8 for consistency.

Since commit 500462a9de65 ("timers: Switch to a non-cascading wheel"),
timers duration can last even 12.5% more than the scheduled interval.
IPVS has two handlers, /proc/net/ip_vs_conn and /proc/net/ip_vs_conn_sync,
which shows the remaining time before that a connection expires.
The default expire time for a connection is 60 seconds, and the
expiration timer can fire even 4 seconds later than the scheduled time.
The expiration time is calculated subtracting jiffies to the scheduled
expiration time, and it's shown as a huge number when the timer fires late,
since both values are unsigned.
This can confuse script and tools which relies on it, like ipvsadm:
root@mcroce-redhat:~# while ipvsadm -lc |grep SYN_RECV; do sleep 1 ; done

We came across infinite loop in ipvs when using ipvs in docker
env.
When ipvs receives new packets and cannot find an ipvs connection,
it will create a new connection, then if the dest is unavailable
(i.e. IP_VS_DEST_F_AVAILABLE), the packet will be dropped sliently.
But if the dropped packet is the first packet of this connection,
the connection control timer never has a chance to start and the
ipvs connection cannot be released. This will lead to memory leak, or
infinite loop in cleanup_net() when net namespace is released like
this:
ip_vs_conn_net_cleanup at ffffffffa0a9f31a [ip_vs]
__ip_vs_cleanup at ffffffffa0a9f60a [ip_vs]
ops_exit_list at ffffffff81567a49
cleanup_net at ffffffff81568b40
process_one_work at ffffffff810a851b
worker_thread at ffffffff810a9356
kthread at ffffffff810b0b6f
ret_from_fork at ffffffff81697a18
race condition:
CPU1 CPU2
ip_vs_in()
ip_vs_conn_new()
ip_vs_del_dest()
__ip_vs_unlink_dest()
~IP_VS_DEST_F_AVAILABLE
cp->dest && !IP_VS_DEST_F_AVAILABLE
__ip_vs_conn_put
...
cleanup_net ---> infinite looping
Fix this by checking whether the timer already started.

Before now, connection templates were ignored by the random
dropentry procedure. But Michal Koutný suggests that we
should add exception for connections under SYN attack.
He provided patch that implements it for TCP:
<quote>
IPVS includes protection against filling the ip_vs_conn_tab by
dropping 1/32 of feasible entries every second. The template
entries (for persistent services) are never directly deleted by
this mechanism but when a picked TCP connection entry is being
dropped (1), the respective template entry is dropped too (realized
by expiring 60 seconds after the connection entry being dropped).
There is another mechanism that removes connection entries when they
time out (2), in this case the associated template entry is not deleted.
Under SYN flood template entries would accumulate (due to their entry
longer timeout).
The accumulation takes place also with drop_entry being enabled. Roughly
15% ((31/32)^60) of SYN_RECV connections survive the dropping mechanism
(1) and are removed by the timeout mechanism (2)(defaults to 60 seconds
for SYN_RECV), thus template entries would still accumulate.
The patch ensures that when a connection entry times out, we also remove
the template entry from the table. To prevent breaking persistent
services (since the connection may time out in already established state)
we add a new entry flag to protect templates what spawned at least one
established TCP connection.
</quote>
We already added ASSURED flag for the templates in previous patch, so
that we can use it now to decide which connection templates should be
dropped under attack. But we also have some cases that need special
handling.
We modify the dropentry procedure as follows:
- Linux timers currently use LIFO ordering but we can not rely on
this to drop controlling connections. So, set cp->timeout to 0
to indicate that connection was dropped and that on expiration we
should try to drop our controlling connections. As result, we can
now avoid the ip_vs_conn_expire_now call.
- move the cp->n_control check above, so that it avoids restarting
the timer for controlling connections when not needed.
- drop unassured connection templates here if they are not referred
by any connections.
On connection expiration: if connection was dropped (cp->timeout=0)
try to drop our controlling connection except if it is a template
in assured state.
In ip_vs_conn_flush change order of ip_vs_conn_expire_now calls
according to the LIFO timer expiration order. It should work
faster for controlling connections with single controlled one.

cp->state was not used for templates. Add support for state bits
and for the first "assured" bit which indicates that some
connection controlled by this template was established or assured
by the real server. In a followup patch we will use it to drop

The vmalloc() function has no 2-factor argument form, so multiplication
factors need to be wrapped in array_size(). This patch replaces cases of:
vmalloc(a * b)
with:
vmalloc(array_size(a, b))
as well as handling cases of:
vmalloc(a * b * c)
with:
vmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c))
This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:
vmalloc(4 * 1024)
though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.
Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.
The Coccinelle script used for this was:
// Fix redundant parens around sizeof().

There is mistake in the rt_mode_allow_non_local assignment.
It should be used to check if sending to non-local addresses is
allowed, now it checks if local addresses are allowed.
As local addresses are allowed for most of the cases, the only
places that are affected are for traffic to transparent cache
servers:

Add support for FTP commands with extended format (RFC 2428):
- FTP EPRT: IPv4 and IPv6, active mode, similar to PORT
- FTP EPSV: IPv4 and IPv6, passive mode, similar to PASV.
EPSV response usually contains only port but we allow real
server to provide different address
We restrict control and data connection to be from same
address family.
Allow the "(" and ")" to be optional in PASV response.
Also, add ipvsh argument to the pkt_in/pkt_out handlers to better
access the payload after transport header.

Prepare NFCT to support IPv6 for FTP:
- Do not restrict the expectation callback to PF_INET
- Split the debug messages, so that the 160-byte limitation
in IP_VS_DBG_BUF is not exceeded when printing many IPv6
addresses. This means no more than 3 addresses in one message,
i.e. 1 tuple with 2 addresses or 1 connection with 3 addresses.

syzkaller reports for buffer overflow for interface name
when starting sync daemons [1]
What we do is that we copy user structure into larger stack
buffer but later we search NUL past the stack buffer.
The same happens for sched_name when adding/editing virtual server.
We are restricted by IP_VS_SCHEDNAME_MAXLEN and IP_VS_IFNAME_MAXLEN
being used as size in include/uapi/linux/ip_vs.h, so they
include the space for NUL.
As using strlcpy is wrong for unsafe source, replace it with
strscpy and add checks to return EINVAL if source string is not
NUL-terminated. The incomplete strlcpy fix comes from 2.6.13.
For the netlink interface reduce the len parameter for
IPVS_DAEMON_ATTR_MCAST_IFN and IPVS_SVC_ATTR_SCHED_NAME,
so that we get proper EINVAL.

S390 bpf_jit.S is removed in net-next and had changes in 'net',
since that code isn't used any more take the removal.
TLS data structures split the TX and RX components in 'net-next',
put the new struct members from the bug fix in 'net' into the RX
part.
The 'net-next' tree had some reworking of how the ERSPAN code works in
the GRE tunneling code, overlapping with a one-line headroom
calculation fix in 'net'.
Overlapping changes in __sock_map_ctx_update_elem(), keep the bits
that read the prog members via READ_ONCE() into local variables
before using them.

Local clients are not properly synchronized on 32-bit CPUs when
updating stats (3.10+). Now it is possible estimation_timer (timer),
a stats reader, to interrupt the local client in the middle of
write_seqcount_{begin,end} sequence leading to loop (DEADLOCK).
The same interrupt can happen from received packet (SoftIRQ)
which updates the same per-CPU stats.
Fix it by disabling BH while updating stats.

IPVS Updates for v4.18
please consider these IPVS enhancements for v4.18.
* Whitepace cleanup
* Add Maglev hashing algorithm as a IPVS scheduler
Inju Song says "Implements the Google's Maglev hashing algorithm as a
IPVS scheduler. Basically it provides consistent hashing but offers some
special features about disruption and load balancing.
1) minimal disruption: when the set of destinations changes,
a connection will likely be sent to the same destination
as it was before.
2) load balancing: each destination will receive an almost
equal number of connections.
Seel also: [3.4 Consistent Hasing] in
https://www.usenix.org/system/files/conference/nsdi16/nsdi16-paper-eisenbud.pdf
"
* Fix to correct implementation of Knuth's multiplicative hashing
which is used in sh/dh/lblc/lblcr algorithms. Instead the
implementation provided by the hash_32() macro is used.

syzkaller reports for wrong rtnl_lock usage in sync code [1] and [2]
We have 2 problems in start_sync_thread if error path is
taken, eg. on memory allocation error or failure to configure
sockets for mcast group or addr/port binding:
1. recursive locking: holding rtnl_lock while calling sock_release
which in turn calls again rtnl_lock in ip_mc_drop_socket to leave
the mcast group, as noticed by Florian Westphal. Additionally,
sock_release can not be called while holding sync_mutex (ABBA
deadlock).
2. task hung: holding rtnl_lock while calling kthread_stop to
stop the running kthreads. As the kthreads do the same to leave
the mcast group (sock_release -> ip_mc_drop_socket -> rtnl_lock)
they hang.
Fix the problems by calling rtnl_unlock early in the error path,
now sock_release is called after unlocking both mutexes.
Problem 3 (task hung reported by syzkaller [2]) is variant of
problem 2: use _trylock to prevent one user to call rtnl_lock and
then while waiting for sync_mutex to block kthreads that execute
sock_release when they are stopped by stop_sync_thread.
