2020-10-31netfilter: nft_reject: add reject verdict support for netdevJose M. Guisado Gomez
Adds support for reject from ingress hook in netdev family. Both stacks ipv4 and ipv6. With reject packets supporting ICMP and TCP RST. This ability is required in devices that need to REJECT legitimate clients which traffic is forwarded from the ingress hook. Joint work with Laura Garcia. Signed-off-by: Jose M. 2020-10-15netfilter: nftables: allow re-computing sctp CRC-32C in 'payload' statementsDavide Caratti
nftables payload statements are used to mangle SCTP headers, but they can only replace the Internet Checksum. As a consequence, nftables rules that mangle sport/dport/vtag in SCTP headers potentially generate packets that are discarded by the receiver, unless the CRC-32C is "offloaded" (e.g the rule mangles a skb having 'ip_summed' equal to 'CHECKSUM_PARTIAL'. Fix this extending uAPI definitions and L4 checksum update function, in a way that userspace programs (e.g. nft) can instruct the kernel to compute CRC-32C in SCTP headers. Also ensure that LIBCRC32C is built if NF_TABLES is 'y' or 'm' in the kernel build configuration. 2020-07-29netfilter: Replace HTTP links with HTTPS onesAlexander A. Klimov
Rationale: Reduces attack surface on kernel devs opening the links for MITM as HTTPS traffic is much harder to manipulate. Deterministic algorithm: For each file: If not .svg: For each line: If doesn't contain `\bxmlns\b`: For each link, `\bhttp://[^# \t\r\n]*(?:\w|/)`: If neither `\bgnu\.org/license`, nor `\bmozilla\.org/MPL\b`: If both the HTTP and HTTPS versions return 200 OK and serve the same content: Replace HTTP with HTTPS. 2020-06-14treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'Masahiro Yamada
Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. There are a variety of indentation styles found. a) 4 spaces + '---help---' b) 7 spaces + '---help---' c) 8 spaces + '---help---' d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---' e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation) f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---' g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---' In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the following commend: $ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/' Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <masahiroy@kernel.org>

2020-03-18netfilter: revert introduction of egress hookDaniel Borkmann
This reverts the following commits: 8537f78647c0 ("netfilter: Introduce egress hook") 5418d3881e1f ("netfilter: Generalize ingress hook") b030f194aed2 ("netfilter: Rename ingress hook include file") >From the discussion in [0], the author's main motivation to add a hook in fast path is for an out of tree kernel module, which is a red flag to begin with. Other mentioned potential use cases like NAT{64,46} is on future extensions w/o concrete code in the tree yet. Revert as suggested [1] given the weak justification to add more hooks to critical fast-path. 2020-03-18netfilter: Introduce egress hookLukas Wunner
Commit e687ad60af09 ("netfilter: add netfilter ingress hook after handle_ing() under unique static key") introduced the ability to classify packets on ingress. Allow the same on egress. Position the hook immediately before a packet is handed to tc and then sent out on an interface, thereby mirroring the ingress order. This order allows marking packets in the netfilter egress hook and subsequently using the mark in tc. Another benefit of this order is consistency with a lot of existing documentation which says that egress tc is performed after netfilter hooks. Egress hooks already exist for the most common protocols, such as NF_INET_LOCAL_OUT or NF_ARP_OUT, and those are to be preferred because they are executed earlier during packet processing. However for more exotic protocols, there is currently no provision to apply netfilter on egress. A common workaround is to enslave the interface to a bridge and use ebtables, or to resort to tc. But when the ingress hook was introduced, consensus was that users should be given the choice to use netfilter or tc, whichever tool suits their needs best: https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/20150430153317.GA3230@salvia/ This hook is also useful for NAT46/NAT64, tunneling and filtering of locally generated af_packet traffic such as dhclient. There have also been occasional user requests for a netfilter egress hook in the past, e.g.: https://www.spinics.net/lists/netfilter/msg50038.html Performance measurements with pktgen surprisingly show a speedup rather than a slowdown with this commit: * Without this commit: Result: OK: 34240933(c34238375+d2558) usec, 100000000 (60byte,0frags) 2920481pps 1401Mb/sec (1401830880bps) errors: 0 * With this commit: Result: OK: 33997299(c33994193+d3106) usec, 100000000 (60byte,0frags) 2941410pps 1411Mb/sec (1411876800bps) errors: 0 * Without this commit + tc egress: Result: OK: 39022386(c39019547+d2839) usec, 100000000 (60byte,0frags) 2562631pps 1230Mb/sec (1230062880bps) errors: 0 * With this commit + tc egress: Result: OK: 37604447(c37601877+d2570) usec, 100000000 (60byte,0frags) 2659259pps 1276Mb/sec (1276444320bps) errors: 0 * With this commit + nft egress: Result: OK: 41436689(c41434088+d2600) usec, 100000000 (60byte,0frags) 2413320pps 1158Mb/sec (1158393600bps) errors: 0 Tested on a bare-metal Core i7-3615QM, each measurement was performed three times to verify that the numbers are stable. 2020-03-15netfilter: nf_tables: make sets built-inFlorian Westphal
Placing nftables set support in an extra module is pointless: 1. nf_tables needs dynamic registeration interface for sake of one module 2. nft heavily relies on sets, e.g. even simple rule like "nft ... tcp dport { 80, 443 }" will not work with _SETS=n. IOW, either nftables isn't used or both nf_tables and nf_tables_set modules are needed anyway. 2019-07-16netfilter: Update obsolete comments referring to ip_conntrackYonatan Goldschmidt
In 9fb9cbb1082d ("[NETFILTER]: Add nf_conntrack subsystem.") the new generic nf_conntrack was introduced, and it came to supersede the old ip_conntrack. This change updates (some) of the obsolete comments referring to old file/function names of the ip_conntrack mechanism, as well as removes a few self-referencing comments that we shouldn't maintain anymore. I did not update any comments referring to historical actions (e.g, comments like "this file was derived from ..." were left untouched, even if the referenced file is no longer here). Satish Patel reports a skb_warn_bad_offload() splat caused by -j CHECKSUM rules: -A POSTROUTING -p tcp -m tcp --sport 80 -j CHECKSUM The CHECKSUM target has never worked with GSO skbs, and the above rule makes no sense as kernel will handle checksum updates on transmit. Unfortunately, there are 3rd party tools that install such rules, so we cannot reject this from the config plane without potential breakage. Amend Kconfig text to clarify that the CHECKSUM target is only useful in virtualized environments, where old dhcp clients that use AF_PACKET used to discard UDP packets with a 'bad' header checksum and add a one-time warning in case such rule isn't restricted to UDP. v2: check IP6T_F_PROTO flag before cmp (Michal Kubecek) Reported-by: Satish Patel <satish.txt@gmail.com> Reported-by: Markos Chandras <markos.chandras@suse.com> Reported-by: Michal Kubecek <mkubecek@suse.cz> Signed-off-by: Florian Westphal <fw@strlen.de> Reviewed-by: Michal Kubecek <mkubecek@suse.cz> Signed-off-by: Pablo Neira Ayuso <pablo@netfilter.org>
2018-08-03netfilter: kconfig: remove ct zone/label dependenciesFlorian Westphal
connection tracking zones currently depend on the xtables CT target. The reasoning was that it makes no sense to support zones if they can't be configured (which needed CT target). Nowadays zones can also be used by OVS and configured via nftables, so remove the dependency. connection tracking labels are handled via hidden dependency that gets auto-selected by the connlabel match. Make it a visible knob, as labels can be attached via ctnetlink or via nftables rules (nft_ct expression) too. This allows to use conntrack labels and zones with nftables-only build. 2018-07-30netfilter: nf_tables: Add native tproxy supportMáté Eckl
A great portion of the code is taken from xt_TPROXY.c There are some changes compared to the iptables implementation: - tproxy statement is not terminal here - Either address or port has to be specified, but at least one of them is necessary. If one of them is not specified, the evaluation will be performed with the original attribute of the packet (ie. target port is not specified => the packet's dport will be used). To make this work in inet tables, the tproxy structure has a family member (typically called priv->family) which is not necessarily equal to ctx->family. priv->family can have three values legally: - NFPROTO_IPV4 if the table family is ip OR if table family is inet, but an ipv4 address is specified as a target address. The rule only evaluates ipv4 packets in this case. - NFPROTO_IPV6 if the table family is ip6 OR if table family is inet, but an ipv6 address is specified as a target address. The rule only evaluates ipv6 packets in this case. - NFPROTO_UNSPEC if the table family is inet AND if only the port is specified. The rule will evaluate both ipv4 and ipv6 packets.
