git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/nab/target-pending
Pull SCSI target updates from Nicholas Bellinger:
"The highlights include:
- numerous target-core-user improvements related to queue full and
timeout handling. (MNC)
- prevent target-core-user corruption when invalid data page is
requested. (MNC)
- add target-core device action configfs attributes to allow
user-space to trigger events separate from existing attributes
exposed to end-users. (MNC)
- fix iscsi-target NULL pointer dereference 4.6+ regression in CHAP
error path. (David Disseldorp)
- avoid target-core backend UNMAP callbacks if range is zero. (Andrei
Vagin)
- fix a iscsi-target 4.14+ regression related multiple PDU logins,
that was exposed due to removal of TCP prequeue support. (Florian
Westphal + MNC)
Also, there is a iser-target bug still being worked on for post -rc1
code to address a long standing issue resulting in persistent
ib_post_send() failures, for RNICs with small max_send_sge"

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/s390/linux
Pull s390 updates from Heiko Carstens:
"The main thing in this merge is the defense for the Spectre
vulnerabilities. But there are other updates as well, the changes in
more detail:
- An s390 specific implementation of the array_index_mask_nospec
function to the defense against spectre v1
- Two patches to utilize the new PPA-12/PPA-13 instructions to run
the kernel and/or user space with reduced branch predicton.
- The s390 variant of the 'retpoline' spectre v2 defense called
'expoline'. There is no return instruction for s390, instead an
indirect branch is used for function return
The s390 defense mechanism for indirect branches works by using an
execute-type instruction with the indirect branch as the target of
the execute. In effect that turns off the prediction for the
indirect branch.
- Scrub registers in entry.S that contain user controlled values to
prevent the speculative use of these values.
- Re-add the second parameter for the s390 specific runtime
instrumentation system call and move the header file to uapi. The
second parameter will continue to do nothing but older kernel
versions only accepted valid real-time signal numbers. The details
will be documented in the man-page for the system call.
- Corrections and improvements for the s390 specific documentation
- Add a line to /proc/sysinfo to display the CPU model dependent
license-internal-code identifier
- A header file include fix for eadm.
- An error message fix in the kprobes code.
- The removal of an outdated ARCH_xxx select statement"
* 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/s390/linux:

The omapfb driver fails to build after commit 23c35f48f5fb
("pinctrl: remove include file from <linux/device.h>") because it
relies on the <linux/pinctrl/consumer.h> and <linux/seq_file.h>
being pulled in by the <linux/device.h> header implicitly.
Include these headers explicitly to avoid the build failures.

When maxcpus=1 is in the kernel command line, the BP is responsible
for re-enabling the HWP - because currently only the APs invoke
intel_pstate_hwp_enable() during their online process - which might
put the system into unstable state after resume.
Fix this by enabling the HWP explicitly on BP during resume.

"The DEFINE_SHOW_ATTRIBUTE() macro was defined privately in three

Move the macro to seq_file.h.
Along with above, clean up three drivers to use that macro.
This, due to dependencies, was sent separately since affected changes
weren't upstream originally yet. The rationale of doing this now is to
allow use of new macro in v4.17 cycle in a conflictless manner"

Add CONFIG_EXPOLINE to enable the use of the new -mindirect-branch= and
-mfunction_return= compiler options to create a kernel fortified against
the specte v2 attack.
With CONFIG_EXPOLINE=y all indirect branches will be issued with an
execute type instruction. For z10 or newer the EXRL instruction will
be used, for older machines the EX instruction. The typical indirect
call
basr %r14,%r1
is replaced with a PC relative call to a new thunk
brasl %r14,__s390x_indirect_jump_r1
The thunk contains the EXRL/EX instruction to the indirect branch
__s390x_indirect_jump_r1:
exrl 0,0f
j .
0: br %r1
The detour via the execute type instruction has a performance impact.
To get rid of the detour the new kernel parameter "nospectre_v2" and
"spectre_v2=[on,off,auto]" can be used. If the parameter is specified
the kernel and module code will be patched at runtime.

Commit b539cc82d493 (PM / Domains: Ignore domain-idle-states that are
not compatible), made it possible to ignore non-compatible
domain-idle-states OF nodes. However, in case that happens while doing
the OF parsing, the number of elements in the allocated array would
exceed the numbers actually needed, thus wasting memory.
Fix this by pre-iterating the genpd OF node and counting the number of
compatible domain-idle-states nodes, before doing the allocation. While
doing this, it makes sense to rework the code a bit to avoid open coding,
of parts responsible for the OF node iteration.
Let's also take the opportunity to clarify the function header for
of_genpd_parse_idle_states(), about what is being returned in case of
errors.

SPCR is currently only enabled or ARM64 and x86 can use SPCR to setup
an early console.
General fixes include updating Documentation & Kconfig (for x86),
updating comments, and changing parse_spcr() to acpi_parse_spcr(),
and earlycon_init_is_deferred to earlycon_acpi_spcr_enable to be
more descriptive.
On x86, many systems have a valid SPCR table but the table version is
not 2 so the table version check must be a warning.
On ARM64 when the kernel parameter earlycon is used both the early console
and console are enabled. On x86, only the earlycon should be enabled by
by default. Modify acpi_parse_spcr() to allow options for initializing
the early console and console separately.

Add suffix ULL to constant 500 in order to give the compiler complete
information about the proper arithmetic to use. Notice that this
constant is used in a context that expects an expression of type
u64 (64 bits, unsigned).
The expression NUM_RETRIES * cppc_ss->latency at line 578, which at
preprocessing time translates to 500 * cppc_ss->latency is currently

Loading IORT table from initrd can be used to fix severe firmware
IORT defects temporarily before platform/BIOS vendor releases an
upgraded BIOS binary.
Moreover, it is very powerful to debug SMMU node/device probe, MSI
allocation, stream id translation and IORT table from firmware.
It is also very useful to enable SMMU and devices behind SMMU before
firmware is ready.
This patch adds ACPI_SIG_IORT to the table, which enables IORT

getnstimeofday() is deprecated, so I'm converting this to use
ktime_get_real_ts64() as a safe replacement. I considered using
ktime_get_real() instead, but since the algorithm here depends on the
exact timing, I decided to introduce fewer changes and leave the code
that determines the nanoseconds since the last seconds wrap untouched.
It's not entirely clear to me whether we should also change the time
base to CLOCK_BOOTTIME or CLOCK_TAI. With boottime, we would be
independent of changes due to settimeofday() and only see the speed
adjustment from the upstream clock source, with the downside of having
the signal be at an arbirary offset from the start of the UTC second
signal. With CLOCK_TAI, we would use the same offset from the UTC
second as before and still suffer from settimeofday() adjustments, but
would be less confused during leap seconds.
Both boottime and tai only offer usable (i.e. avoiding ktime_t to
timespec64 conversion) interfaces for ktime_t though, so either way,
changing it wouldn't take significantly more work. CLOCK_MONOTONIC
could be used with ktime_get_ts64(), but would lose synchronization
across a suspend/resume cycle, which seems worse.
