2017-01-12s390/qeth: issue STARTLAN as first IPA commandJulian Wiedmann
STARTLAN needs to be the first IPA command after MPC initialization completes. So move the qeth_send_startlan() call from the layer disciplines into the core path, right after the MPC handshake. While at it, replace the magic LAN OFFLINE return code with the existing enum. 2017-01-12s390/qeth: display warning for OSA3 RX/TX checksum offloadingThomas Richter
When RX/TX checksum offloading is turned on and the adapter is an OSA 3 card in layer 3 mode, the checksum offloading is only performed when both peers use different adapters. If both peers share an OSA 3 card, communication is a memory copy and checksum offloading is not performed. This patch adds a warning to inform the administrator. OSA 3 in layer 2 mode does not offer the RX/TX checksum offload feature. 2017-01-12s390/qeth: test RX/TX checksum offload replyThomas Richter
Turning on receive and/or transmit checksum offload support on the OSA card requires 2 commands: 1. start command which replies with available features 2. enable command to turn on selected features. The current version does not check the reply of the start command and simply uses the returned value to enable offload features. When the start command returns zero, this leads to a situation where no checksum offload is turned on by the hardware. Even worse no error indication is returned. The Linux kernel assumes the OSA card performs RX/TX checksum offload, but the hardware does not perform any checksum verification at all. This patch checks the return of the start and enable command responses from the hardware and turns off checksum offloading if the commands fails or does not respond with the correct bit setting. 2016-09-16qeth: restore device features after recoveryHans Wippel
After device recovery, only a basic set of network device features is enabled on the device. If features like checksum offloading or TSO were enabled by the user before the recovery, this results in a mismatch between the network device features, that the kernel assumes to be enabled on the device, and the features actually enabled on the device. This patch tries to restore previously set features, that require changes on the device, after the recovery of a device. In case of an error, the network device's features are changed to contain only the features that are actually turned on. 2016-06-16qeth: omit outbound queue 3 for unicast packets in Priority Queuing on ↵Hans Wippel
HiperSockets On HiperSockets only outbound queues 0 to 2 are available for unicast packets. Current Priority Queuing implementation in the qeth driver puts outgoing packets in outbound queues 0 to 3. This puts outgoing unicast packets into outbound queue 2 instead of outbound queue 3 when using Priority Queuing on a HiperSocket. Additionally, the default outbound queue cannot be set to outbound queue 3 on HiperSockets. 2016-06-16qeth: improve set_features error handlingHans Wippel
The function set_features is called to configure network device features on the hardware. If errors occur, the network device features should reflect the changed hardware state and the function should return an error in order to notify the user. In case of an error, the current implementation does not necessarily save the changed hardware state in the network device features before an error is returned. This patch improves error handling by saving features, that could be changed, to the network device features before returning an error. If the device is not running, an additional check in fix_features removes features, that require hardware changes, before they are passed to set_features. This patch introduces a common set of fix_features and set_features functions for layer 2 and layer 3. The RX, TX and TSO offload functionality on the OSA card is enabled using ethtool at user's request and not at device initialization as done before. For layer 3 the RX checksum offloading is disabled at device initialization time. In layer3 mode of the qeth driver, multicast IP addresses from struct net_device and other type of IP addresses from other sources require mapping to the OSA-card. This patch simplifies the IP address mapping logic, and changes imple- mentation of ndo_set_rx_mode callback and ip notifier events. Addresses are stored in private hashtables instead of lists now. It allows hardware registration/removal for new/deleted multicast addresses only. 2015-09-21qeth: add layer 2 RX/TX checksum offloadingThomas Richter
Checksum offloading for send and receive is already supported for layer 3 (IP layer). This patch adds support for RX and TX hardware checksum offloading for layer 2 (MAC layer). The hardware calculates the checksum for IP UDP and TCP packets. This patch moves the hardware checksum offloading setup to the set of common functions in qeth_core_main.c. Layer 2 and layer 3 now simply call the same common functions. Also note that TX checksum offloading is always enabled. The device driver relies on the TCP/IP stack to make use of this feature. The device driver has plenty of command buffers available per channel for channel command communication. In the extremely rare case when there is no command buffer available, return a NULL pointer and issue a warning in the kernel log. The caller handles the case when a NULL pointer is encountered and returns an error. In the case the wait for command buffer is possible (because no lock is held as in the OSN case), still wait until a channel command buffer is available. 2014-10-26qeth: fix some trace formating issuesThomas Richter
This patch fixes trace formatting issues using the QETH_CARD_TEXT_ macro. The total size of each trace entry is 8 bytes. Some of the sprintf formats exceed these 8 bytes (for example using abcd:%d and the converted value needs more than 3 bytes). The solution is to shorten the text prepending the value or use a different format (%x). 2014-09-02qeth: don't query for info if hardware not ready.Eugene Crosser
When qeth device is queried for ethtool data, hardware operation is performed to extract the necessary information from the card. If the card is not online at the moment (e.g. it is undergoing recovery), this operation produces undesired effects like temporarily freezing the system. This patch prevents execution of the hardware query operation when the card is not online. In such case, ioctl() operation returns error with errno ENODEV. This is likely to fail at runtime and wastes a lot of memory since the actual size is just about 34K. Since there is no need for this buffer to be contiguous split it up using qdio buffer helpers. The maximum usable buffer size of the s390 debug feature (when using the sprintf_view) is 11 * sizeof(long) (1 pointer for the format string + 10 arguments). When a larger buffer size is specified the additional memory is unused and wasted per debug entry. So reducing the buffer size to its maximum (or to the actual buffer size used) will make more precious debug feature space usable. For pci_msg, chsc_msg, and cio_crw we use the additional usable dbf space to reduce the number of allocated pages. Pull networking updates from David Miller: 1) The addition of nftables. No longer will we need protocol aware firewall filtering modules, it can all live in userspace. At the core of nftables is a, for lack of a better term, virtual machine that executes byte codes to inspect packet or metadata (arriving interface index, etc.) and make verdict decisions. Besides support for loading packet contents and comparing them, the interpreter supports lookups in various datastructures as fundamental operations. For example sets are supports, and therefore one could create a set of whitelist IP address entries which have ACCEPT verdicts attached to them, and use the appropriate byte codes to do such lookups. Since the interpreted code is composed in userspace, userspace can do things like optimize things before giving it to the kernel. Another major improvement is the capability of atomically updating portions of the ruleset. In the existing netfilter implementation, one has to update the entire rule set in order to make a change and this is very expensive. Userspace tools exist to create nftables rules using existing netfilter rule sets, but both kernel implementations will need to co-exist for quite some time as we transition from the old to the new stuff. Kudos to Patrick McHardy, Pablo Neira Ayuso, and others who have worked so hard on this. 2) Daniel Borkmann and Hannes Frederic Sowa made several improvements to our pseudo-random number generator, mostly used for things like UDP port randomization and netfitler, amongst other things. In particular the taus88 generater is updated to taus113, and test cases are added. 3) Support 64-bit rates in HTB and TBF schedulers, from Eric Dumazet and Yang Yingliang. 4) Add support for new 577xx tigon3 chips to tg3 driver, from Nithin Sujir. 5) Fix two fatal flaws in TCP dynamic right sizing, from Eric Dumazet, Neal Cardwell, and Yuchung Cheng. 6) Allow IP_TOS and IP_TTL to be specified in sendmsg() ancillary control message data, much like other socket option attributes. From Francesco Fusco. 7) Allow applications to specify a cap on the rate computed automatically by the kernel for pacing flows, via a new SO_MAX_PACING_RATE socket option.
