2020-11-21usbnet: ipheth: fix connectivity with iOS 14Yves-Alexis Perez
Starting with iOS 14 released in September 2020, connectivity using the personal hotspot USB tethering function of iOS devices is broken. Communication between the host and the device (for example ICMP traffic or DNS resolution using the DNS service running in the device itself) works fine, but communication to endpoints further away doesn't work. Investigation on the matter shows that no UDP and ICMP traffic from the tethered host is reaching the Internet at all. For TCP traffic there are exchanges between tethered host and server but packets are modified in transit leading to impossible communication. After some trials Matti Vuorela discovered that reducing the URB buffer size by two bytes restored the previous behavior. While a better solution might exist to fix the issue, since the protocol is not publicly documented and considering the small size of the fix, let's do that. 2020-11-05net/usb/r8153_ecm: support ECM mode for RTL8153Hayes Wang
Support ECM mode based on cdc_ether with relative mii functions, when CONFIG_USB_RTL8152 is not set, or the device is not supported by r8152 driver. Both r8152 and r8153_ecm would check the return value of rtl8152_get_version() in porbe(). If rtl8152_get_version() return none zero value, the r8152 is used for the device with vendor mode. Otherwise, the r8153_ecm is used for the device with ECM mode. 2020-10-18net: usb: rtl8150: don't incorrectly assign random MAC addressesAnant Thazhemadam
In set_ethernet_addr(), if get_registers() succeeds, the ethernet address that was read must be copied over. Otherwise, a random ethernet address must be assigned. get_registers() returns 0 if successful, and negative error number otherwise. However, in set_ethernet_addr(), this return value is incorrectly checked. Since this return value will never be equal to sizeof(node_id), a random MAC address will always be generated and assigned to the device; even in cases when get_registers() is successful. Correctly modifying the condition that checks if get_registers() was successful or not fixes this problem, and copies the ethernet address appropriately. Refactor port buffer handling to make the defaults more suitable and support setting these values explicitly via the DCBNL interface. - Add XDP support for Intel's igb driver. - Support offloading TC flower classification and filtering rules to mscc_ocelot switches. - Add PTP support for Marvell Octeontx2 and PP2.2 hardware, as well as fixed interval period pulse generator and one-step timestamping in dpaa-eth. - Add support for various auth offloads in WiFi APs, e.g. SAE (WPA3) offload. - Add Lynx PHY/PCS MDIO module, and convert various drivers which have this HW to use it. 2020-10-12cx82310_eth: re-enable ethernet mode after router rebootOndrej Zary
When the router is rebooted without a power cycle, the USB device remains connected but its configuration is reset. This results in a non-working ethernet connection with messages like this in syslog: usb 2-2: RX packet too long: 65535 B Re-enable ethernet mode when receiving a packet with invalid size of 0xffff. 2020-10-06net: usb: rtl8150: set random MAC address when set_ethernet_addr() failsAnant Thazhemadam
When get_registers() fails in set_ethernet_addr(),the uninitialized value of node_id gets copied over as the address. So, check the return value of get_registers(). If get_registers() executed successfully (i.e., it returns sizeof(node_id)), copy over the MAC address using ether_addr_copy() (instead of using memcpy()). Else, if get_registers() failed instead, a randomly generated MAC address is set as the MAC address instead. 2020-09-29net: usb: kaweth: Remove last user of kaweth_control()Sebastian Andrzej Siewior
kaweth_async_set_rx_mode() invokes kaweth_contol() and has two callers: - kaweth_open() which is invoked from preemptible context . - kaweth_start_xmit() which holds a spinlock and has bottom halfs disabled. If called from kaweth_start_xmit() kaweth_async_set_rx_mode() obviously cannot block, which means it can't call kaweth_control(). This is detected with an in_interrupt() check. Replace the in_interrupt() check in kaweth_async_set_rx_mode() with an argument which is set true by the caller if the context is safe to sleep, otherwise false. Now kaweth_control() is only called from preemptible context which means there is no need for GFP_ATOMIC allocations anymore. Replace it with usb_control_msg(). Cleanup the code a bit while at it. Finally remove kaweth_control() since the last user is gone. kaweth_control() is almost the same as usb_control_msg() except for the memory allocation mode (GFP_ATOMIC vs GFP_NOIO) and the in_interrupt() check. All the invocations of kaweth_control() are within the probe function in fully preemtible context so there is no reason to use atomic allocations, GFP_NOIO which is used by usb_control_msg() is perfectly fine. Replace kaweth_control() invocations from probe with usb_control_msg(). Some WinCE devices face connectivity issues via the NDIS interface. They fail to register, resulting in -110 timeout errors and failures during the probe procedure. In this kind of WinCE devices, the Windows-side ndis driver needs quite more time to be loaded and configured, so that the linux rndis host queries to them fail to be responded correctly on time. More specifically, when INIT is called on the WinCE side - no other requests can be served by the Client and this results in a failed QUERY afterwards. The increase of the waiting time on the side of the linux rndis host in the command-response loop leaves the INIT process to complete and respond to a QUERY, which comes afterwards. Generally, each PHY has their own configuration and it can be done through an external PHY driver. The smsc95xx driver uses only the hard-coded internal PHY configuration. This patch adds phylib support to probe external PHY drivers for configuring external PHYs.
