2020-05-05drm/bridge: chrontel-ch7033: Add a new driverLubomir Rintel
This is a driver for video encoder with VGA and DVI/HDMI outputs. There is no documentation for the chip -- the operation was guessed from what was sniffed on a Dell Wyse 3020 ThinOS terminal, the register names come from the ch7035 driver in Mediatek's GPL code dump. Only bare minimum is implemented -- no fancy stuff, such as scaling. That would only worsen our misery. We don't load the firmware and we don't need to even bother enabling the MCU. There are probably no distributable firmware images anyway. Tested with a handful of monitors ranging from 1024x768@75 to 1400x1050@60, with VGA as well as DVI. 2020-04-25drm/bridge: panel: Return always an error pointer in drm_panel_bridge_add()Enric Balletbo i Serra
Since commit 89958b7cd955 ("drm/bridge: panel: Infer connector type from panel by default"), drm_panel_bridge_add() and their variants can return NULL and an error pointer. This is fine but none of the actual users of the API are checking for the NULL value. Instead of change all the users, seems reasonable to return an error pointer instead. So change the returned value for those functions when the connector type is unknown. Analogix_dp driver acquires all its resources in the ->bind() callback, what is a bit against the component driver based approach, where the driver initialization is split into a probe(), where all resources are gathered, and a bind(), where all objects are created and a compound driver is initialized. Extract all the resource related operations to analogix_dp_probe() and analogix_dp_remove(), then call them before/after registration of the device components from the main Exynos DP and Rockchip DP drivers. Also move the plat_data initialization to the probe() to make it available for the analogix_dp_probe() function. is_color_space_conversion() is a misnomer. It checks not only if color space conversion is needed, but also if format conversion is needed. This is actually desired behaviour because result of this function determines if CSC block should be enabled or not (CSC block can also do format conversion). In order to clear misunderstandings, let's rework is_color_space_conversion() to do exactly what is supposed to do and add another function which will determine if CSC block must be enabled or not. CEA 861 standard requestis that RGB quantization range is "limited" for CEA modes. Support that by adding CSC matrix which downscales values. This allows proper color reproduction on TV and PC monitor at the same time. In future, override property can be added, like "Broadcast RGB" in i915 driver. 2020-03-24drm/bridge: dw-hdmi: do not force "none" scan modeJonas Karlman
Setting scan mode to "none" confuses some TVs like LG B8, which randomly change overscan percentage over time. Digital outputs like HDMI and DVI, handled by this controller, don't really need overscan, so we can always set scan mode to underscan. Actually, this is exactly what drm_hdmi_avi_infoframe_from_display_mode() already does, so we can just remove offending line. 2020-02-27drm/bridge: analogix-anx6345: fix set of link bandwidthIcenowy Zheng
Current code tries to store the link rate (in bps, which is a big number) in a u8, which surely overflow. Then it's converted back to bandwidth code (which is thus 0) and written to the chip. The code sometimes works because the chip will automatically fallback to the lowest possible DP link rate (1.62Gbps) when get the invalid value. However, on the eDP panel of Olimex TERES-I, which wants 2.7Gbps link, it failed. As we had already read the link bandwidth as bandwidth code in earlier code (to check whether it is supported), use it when setting bandwidth, instead of converting it to link rate and then converting back. Now that a driver is available for display connectors, replace the manual connector handling code with usage of the DRM bridge API. The tfp410 driver doesn't deal with the display connector directly anymore, but still delegates drm_connector operations to the next bridge. 2020-02-26drm/bridge: Add bridge driver for display connectorsLaurent Pinchart
Display connectors are modelled in DT as a device node, but have so far been handled manually in several bridge drivers. This resulted in duplicate code in several bridge drivers, with slightly different (and thus confusing) logics. In order to fix this, implement a bridge driver for display connectors. The driver centralises logic for the DVI, HDMI, VGAn composite and S-video connectors and exposes corresponding bridge operations. This driver in itself doesn't solve the issue completely, changes in bridge and display controller drivers are needed to make use of the new connector driver. 2020-02-26drm/bridge: Extend bridge API to disable connector creationLaurent Pinchart
Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty well so far, but causes several issues: - It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data, and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model. - It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector handling code, resulting in code duplication. - It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in the analogix_dp bridge driver). In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector should be moved to the display controller driver (where it can be implemented using helpers provided by the core). Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge drivers as a first step towards the new model. The new flags argument to the bridge .attach() operation allows instructing the bridge driver to skip creating a connector. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to 0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as they don't support this feature yet. If we fail training at a lower DP link rate let's now keep trying until we run out of rates to try. Basically the algorithm here is to start at the link rate that is the theoretical minimum and then slowly bump up until we run out of rates or hit the max rate of the sink. We query the sink using a DPCD read. This is, in fact, important in practice. Specifically at least one panel hooked up to the bridge (AUO B116XAK01) had a theoretical min rate more than 1.62 GHz (if run at 24 bpp) and fails to train at the next rate (2.16 GHz). It would train at 2.7 GHz, though. This is not intended to have any functional change and is in preparation for trying link training several times at different rates. The current bridge driver always forced us to use 24 bits per pixel over the DP link. This is a waste if you are hooked up to a panel that only supports 6 bits per color or fewer, since in that case you can run at 18 bits per pixel and thus end up at a lower DP clock rate. Let's support this. While at it, let's clean up the math in the function to avoid rounding errors (and round in the correct direction when we have to round). Numbers are sufficiently small (because mode->clock is in kHz) that we don't need to worry about integer overflow.
