2010-08-09mm: provide init_mm mm_context initializerHeiko Carstens
Provide an INIT_MM_CONTEXT intializer macro which can be used to statically initialize mm_struct:mm_context of init_mm. This way we can get rid of code which will do the initialization at run time (on s390). In addition the current code can be found at a place where it is not expected. So let's have a common initializer which architectures can use if needed. This is based on a patch from Suzuki Poulose. 2010-08-03kbuild: allow assignment to {A,C,LD}FLAGS_MODULE on the command lineSam Ravnborg
It is now possible to assign options to AS, CC and LD on the command line - which is only used when building modules. {A,C,LD}FLAGS_MODULE was all used both in the top-level Makefile in the arch makefiles, thus users had no way to specify additional options to AS, CC, LD when building modules without overriding the original value. Introduce a new set of variables KBUILD_{A,C,LD}FLAGS_MODULE that is used by arch specific files and free up {A,C,LD}FLAGS_MODULE so they can be assigned on the command line. All arch Makefiles that used the old variables has been updated. Note: Previously we had a MODFLAGS variable for both AS and CC. But in favour of consistency this was dropped. So in some cases arch Makefile has one assignmnet replaced by two assignmnets. Note2: MODFLAGS was not documented and is dropped without any notice. I do not expect much/any breakage from this. 2010-07-27[S390] etr: fix clock synchronization raceMartin Schwidefsky
The etr events switch-to-local and sync-check disable the synchronous clock and schedule a work queue that tries to get the clock back into sync. If another switch-to-local or sync-check event occurs while the work queue function etr_work_fn still runs the eacr.es bit and the clock_sync_word can become inconsistent because check_sync_clock only uses the clock_sync_word to determine if the clock is in sync or not. The second pass of the etr_work_fn will reset the eacr.es bit but will leave the clock_sync_word intact. Fix this race by moving the reset of the eacr.es bit into the switch-to-local and sync-check functions and by checking the eacr.es bit as well to decide if the clock needs to be synced. 2010-07-27[S390] Fix IRQ tracing in case of PERHeiko Carstens
In case user space is single stepped (PER) the program check handler claims too early that IRQs are enabled on the return path. Subsequent checks will notice that the IRQ mask in the PSW and what lockdep thinks the IRQ mask should be do not correlate and therefore will print a warning to the console and disable lockdep. update_vsyscall() did not provide the wall_to_monotoinc offset, so arch specific implementations tend to reference wall_to_monotonic directly. 2010-07-07net: fix 64 bit counters on 32 bit archesEric Dumazet
There is a small possibility that a reader gets incorrect values on 32 bit arches. SNMP applications could catch incorrect counters when a 32bit high part is changed by another stats consumer/provider. One way to solve this is to add a rtnl_link_stats64 param to all ndo_get_stats64() methods, and also add such a parameter to dev_get_stats(). Rule is that we are not allowed to use dev->stats64 as a temporary storage for 64bit stats, but a caller provided area (usually on stack) Old drivers (only providing get_stats() method) need no changes. 2010-05-27asm-generic: remove ISA_DMA_THRESHOLD in scatterlist.hFUJITA Tomonori
This is the first half of the attempt to use asm-generic/scatterlist.h on every architecture. There are only two ways to define scatterlist structure. So it's easy to convert every architecture to use asm-generic/scatterlist.h. This patch: The trick for ISA_DMA_THRESHOLD in asm-generic/scatterlist.h doesn't work for powerpc. This lets architectures defin ISA_DMA_THRESHOLD. Hopefully, we can remove ISA_DMA_THRESHOLD in the future; we can do better to decide if the bouncing is necessary or not. This config option enables or disables three single instructions which aren't expensive. This is too fine grained. Besided that everybody who uses kvm would enable it anyway in order to debug performance problems. Just remove it. 2010-05-26[S390] kprobes: forbid probing of stnsm/stosm/epswHeiko Carstens
The probed instructions will be executed in a single stepped and irq disabled context. Therefore the results of stnsm, stosm and epsw would be wrong if probed. So let's just disallow probing of these functions. If really needed a fixup could be written for each of them, but I doubt it's worth it. 2010-05-26[S390] cmm: fix crash on module unloadHeiko Carstens
There might be a scheduled cmm_timer if the cmm module gets unloaded. That timer was not deleted during module unload and thus could lead to system crash later on. Besides that reorder function calls in module init and exit code to avoid a couple of other races which could lead to accesses to uninitialized data. This reverts commit b3b77c8caef1750ebeea1054e39e358550ea9f55, which was also totally broken (see commit 0d2daf5cc858 that reverted the crc32 version of it). Linux does not define __BYTE_ORDER in its endian header files which makes some header files bend backwards to get at the current endian. Lets #define __BYTE_ORDER in big_endian.h/litte_endian.h to make it easier for header files that are used in user space too. In userspace the convention is that 1. _both_ __LITTLE_ENDIAN and __BIG_ENDIAN are defined, 2. you have to test for e.g. __BYTE_ORDER == __BIG_ENDIAN.
